YMCA After School Program
Lead CBO, The YMCA of Greater New York
A Community School is a partnership between the school staff, families, scholars, lead CBO and community resources. Community schools focus on academics, health and social services, youth and community development. Studies show that community engagement leads to improved student learning, stronger families and healthier communities. As a Community School, we offer:
- Monthly events/workshops for families relevant to academic and health issues.
- Mental health and social services referrals are available to students and families.
- Weekly/monthly Student Council meetings
- Student Engagement Activities and Attendance Incentives.
The YMCA of Greater New York is here for all New Yorkers — to empower youth, improve health, and strengthen community. Founded in 1852, today the Y serves a diverse population of more than half a million New Yorkers who learn, grow, and thrive through programs and services at our 24 branches. Community is the cornerstone of the Y. Together, we connect active, engaged New Yorkers to build stronger communities.
YMCA After School Program
Dear Families,
Thank you for your interest in the YMCA After School Program. We welcome you as partners in providing your child with safe, healthy and educational afternoons. The after school program will provide additional hours that allow children to work on homework; focus on the YMCA values of caring, honesty, respect and responsibility; practice skills learned during the school day; and practice social skills during recreational activities.
In light of current events, please know that the safety and well-being of your children is our top priority. Our afterschool program is licensed through the Department of Health and we follow and maintain all guidelines and requirements set forth by DOH and DOE regulations.
Throughout the school year, there will be several events hosted by the YMCA Afterschool program. We ask that at least one adult from each family attends each event to support the students involved. This will also allow you to see your child’s activities and progress first hand.
Before we can begin to serve your child with the program, however, we do need to have all of the paperwork completed. Documents needed:
- Program Application Form
- Signed Family Manual/ Student Code of Conduct/ Cell Phone Policy
- Medical Form– students will not be enrolled in the program without an updated medical and may forfeit their slot in the program due to failure to submit prior to the start of the program.
*Please note due to space limitations, enrollment in the program is by lottery selection and ONLY those children who are selected in the lottery will be contacted. Due to the COVID-19 crisis *After school program dates and details will be made available once the DOE releases its calendar.
*Please note: upon acceptance, a parent/guardian will be required to attend a program information session over ZOOM. Families and caregivers are strongly encouraged to attend this orientation.
If you would like more information or have any questions, please don’t hesitate to contact us. Please contact Tiffany Allen, Community School Director (Tallen@ymcanyc.org) for program inquiries.
